Career Profile

Chiedu Felix Mafiana, a Professor of Parasitology, obtained his Doctorate degree (PhD) in Zoology, with specialisation in Parasitology, from the University of Benin in 1988. He began his academic career in October 1989 at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) and rose through the ranks, to Professor in October 2002. Professor Mafiana’s research interest is on the Epidemiology of Parasitic Diseases arising from Agricultural Development and Land–use Practices, water-related activities, environmental changes and sanitation. He pioneered research into Simulium and onchocerciasis in the then Bendel State of Nigeria, previously terra incognita. He was a Member of the Technical Review Committee of African Programme on Onchocerciasis Control. His other major research investigations include studies on schistosomiasis and geo-epidemiological mapping of the diseases including malaria and soil transmitted helminthiasis.
