Career Profile

Prof. Andrew Osereme Agbon, transferred his services to the National Open University of Nigeria in 2023 and was appointed into the Department of Biological Sciences. Prof. Agbon holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Zoology (1992) from the University of Ibadan and a Masters degree in Applied Hydrobiology and Fisheries from the University of Jos (1996). He later bagged a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Agriculture Abeokuta (2009) with a specialization in Aquatic Ecotoxicology. Prof. Agbon’s work experience in the university system dates back to 1997 when he started his career at the University of Agriculture Abeokuta as an Assistant Lecturer. He has taught, supervised and mentored many students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His areas of specialization are aquatic ecology, aquatic ecotoxicology and aquaculture. Prof. Andrew Agbon reviews manuscripts for several reputable indexed , institutional and societal journals. He is a member of several professional groups/societies which include: Zoological Society of Nigeria, Fisheries Society of Nigeria, Freshwater Biology Association of Nigeria, Multidisciplinary Aquatic Studies Team, National Association of Aquatic Sciences, Ecological Society of Nigeria, SETAC Central and West Africa Region e.t.c.

He has a vast experience in agriculture value chain under which he has served in capacities as consultant to national, international and multinational development agencies/NGOs in providing expert advisory services especially in agriculture value chain, climate smart agriculture and food security. His research interest includes but not limited to the effects of agrochemicals and industrial/domestic effluents on aquatic organisms and ecosystem. Presently, he is serving the university in various committees in addition to the routine teaching, research and community services.
