Maureen Nkemdilim Chukwu is an Associate Professor in the Biology Programme of the Department of Biological Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences at the National Open University of Nigeria. She holds a Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Genetics (specializing in Ecology) from University of Lagos, Nigeria. She commenced her academic career as a Lecturer II at the National Open University of Nigeria in 2011. She was the Head of Department of Pure and Applied Sciences from October, 2020 – November, 2021 and the pioneer and present HOD, Department of Biological Sciences of the University. She was the Coordinator of Science Laboratories of National Open University of Nigeria from 2014 to 2020 and the Faculty of Sciences Examination Officer from 2017 -2020. She has served as a resource person and facilitator in conferences and training workshops in Nigeria and abroad. She has also been involved in impactful community and town-and-gown activities.

Name: Prof. Chiedu Felix Mafiana

Chiedu Felix Mafiana, a Professor of Parasitology, obtained his Doctorate degree (PhD) Zoology, with specialisation in Parasitology, from the University of Benin in 1988. He began his academic career in October 1989 at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) and rose through the ranks, to Professor in October 2002.
He served the University and the Nigerian University System (NUS), in several capacities, including Head of Department, Director, Equipment Maintenance Centre, Director, Academic Planning, and Chairman/Member of many Committees, including Committees of Council and Senate. He has produced many PhD graduates.
Professor Mafiana’s research interest is in the Epidemiology of Parasitic Diseases arising from Agricultural Development and Land–use Practices, Water-related Activities, Environmental Changes and Sanitation. He pioneered research into Simulium and Onchocerciasis in the then Bendel State of Nigeria, previously terra incognita. He has consulted for the African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control (APOC) on the Rapid Epidemiological Mapping of Onchocerciasis, as well as studies on the blackfly (Simulium) cross-boarder movement between Benin Republic and Nigeria. He was a Member of the Technical Review Committee of African Programme on Onchocerciasis Control.
His other major research investigations include studies on Schistosomiasis and Geo-Epidemiological Mapping of the Disease, Malaria (infant and maternal, and insecticide treated nets and mosquito vectors) and Intestinal Helminthiasis. He is widely published. Professor Mafiana is a Trustee, life member and Fellow of the Parasitology and Public health Society of Nigeria (FPPSN), and also served it in different capacities, including Business Manager, Editor-In-Chief of its Official Organ, The Nigerian Journal of Parasitology and Member, Editorial Board. He is also a Fellow of the Zoological Society of Nigeria (FZSN)
He has great interest in the development of Higher Education with focus on quality assurance, leadership and management in higher education systems. He is a founding member of the African Quality Assurance Network (AfriQAN), and served it as the Executive member, representing West Africa on the Board and later as President.
Before joining the National Open University of Nigeria, Professor Mafiana served as Director and later Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja, during which time he was Nigeria’s Focal Point for the Implementation of the 2014 Addis Convention, and Board Member, Harmonisation of African Higher Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation (HAQAA). He was also Member of UNESCO’s Drafting Committee on Global Convention On Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications. He is presently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic of National Open University of Nigeria.

Name: Prof. Sonnie Joshua Oniye

Professor S.J. Oniye is a seasoned academic staff of the Department of Zoology, Ahmadu Bello University, and Zaria, where he has been teaching and researching for over thirty eight (38) years. He has well over one hundred and twenty (120) publications in local and international journals, and graduated over fifty (50) students at the Doctoral and Master’s levels in Fisheries, Hydrobiology/Environmental sciences, Parasitology and allied fields. Prof. Oniye is the past President of Zoological Society of Nigeria, a member of Fisheries Society of Nigeria, Aquatic Society of Nigeria, and several other academic associations.
Prof. Oniye is a Fellow of Society for Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Mitigation, a Fellow of Fisheries Society of Nigeria, and also a Fellow of the Zoological Society of Nigeria.

He is a visiting Professor and an External Examiner to some Universities, a consultant in Fisheries and Environmental Sciences.

Name: Prof. Sami Michael Ayodele

I have a BSc. in Botany in 1986 from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. My MSc. in Microbial plant pathology was from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. I started my academic career in 1993 at Delta State University, Abraka as Assistant Lecturer. In 2006, I obtained my PhD in Botany from the University of Benin; Nigeria. I rose to the rank of senior lecturer at Delta State University, Abraka in 2007. In 2008, I was appointed Senior Lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba where I rose to the rank of Professor in 2013. At Kogi State University, I was appointed pioneer Director of Centre for Pre-Degree and Diploma studies, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Natural Science and Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences. In 2013 to 2014, I was invited as a visiting Professor at Medicinal Plants and Economic Development Research Centre, Department of Botany, University of Fort Hare, Alice, South Africa. In October, 2017, I was appointed as a Professor at National Open University of Nigeria, Abuja. I am currently the Director Abuja Model Study Centre, the second largest study centre of National Open University of Nigeria. I have over 40 research publications in peer reviewed and recognized Journals, locally and internationally.

Name: Prof. Monioluwa Omolara Olaniyi 

Monioluwa Omolara Olaniyi is a Professor of Nematology in the Biology Programme of the Department of Biological Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). She commenced her academic career as an Assistant Lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in 1991 before joining the services of the NOUN in 2011. She was the first elected female Dean of the Faculty of Sciences (formerly School of Science and Technology) of the university. She served a two terms of two years each in office from August 2016 to October 2020. She has served in several university committees including the Strategic Plan Central Working Committees, Academic Brief Committees, University Examination Committee, and Committee of Deans and Directors, among others. She served as Senate Representative on the University Governing Council from 2016 to 2018 and as a Senate Representative on the Council Selection Board for a new Vice-Chancellor September – December 2020).

Olaniyi’s contribution to knowledge is demonstrated by her publications in both national and international journals. She was the pioneer Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Journal of Nematology (2012-2015) and the NOUN Journal of Physical and Life Sciences (2017-2020). She has supervised students’ projects at all levels (Bachelors to PhD) and served as external examiner to M.Sc. and PhD students in some Nigerian universities while she has assessed professorial candidates for universities in Nigeria and Ghana. She has served as Keynote speaker, resource person and facilitator in conferences, training workshops and seminars. Olaniyi has to her credit a number of research grants, academic scholarships fellowships and travel grants that enabled her to have a global appreciation of teaching, research and community service. She has also been involved with impactful community and town-and-gown activities. Her current area of research focus includes Nematology and plant protection, biosafety of plant biotechnology, conservation, protection and utilisation of medicinal and under developed plants as environmentally safe options in the management of plant pathogens, and the development of digital tools for the effective teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in higher education and Open and Distance learning. She is passionate about data management for strategic planning and management of systems.

Name: Dr Uduak Aletan

A Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, National Open University of Nigeria. She is the coordinator of the Faculty of Science Laboratories at the University Regional Office in Lagos where she doubles as the Liaison Officer for the Faculty of Science. She is also the Examination Officer of the Department of Biological Sciences.
She has also been the Head of Unit – Chemistry as well as Head of Programme II which was in charge of examinations in the then School of Science and Technology.

Dr Uduak Aletan obtained her First Degree in Biochemistry (2nd Class Upper Division) from the University of Calabar, Nigeria where she proceeded to obtain a Master of Science in Biochemistry as well as a PhD in Biochemistry.
She studied the Bioavailability of zinc and copper on wistar albino rats fed on Nigerian peasant diets. Subsequently she studied the Biochemical effect and Interaction with iodine metabolism following ingestion of Allium cepa and Allium sativum by albino Wistar rats

ADAMS, ABIODUN EMMANUEL is an Academic staff (LECTURER 1) in the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, National Open University of Nigeria. I attended University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, amongst others where I obtained relevant degrees which includes the Bachelor of Science degree in Crop Protection and Environmental Biology and Master of Science in Cell Biology and Genetics (Environmental Biology), amongst others. Name: Mr. Omada Stephen Enyojo

Omada Stephen Enyojo holds a B.Sc. in Microbiology from Salem University, Lokoja, which he obtained in 2014. He further obtained a Master of Science in Applied Biotechnology from the University of Westminster, London, in 2016. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Industrial Microbiology, at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with research focused on the exploitation of indigenous agricultural produce as key biomass for bioenergy generation. He is currently an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, National Open University of Nigeria.

He is a member of the Biotechnology Society of Nigeria and the Nigerian Society for Microbiology.
His research interests are in areas such as environmental biotechnology, fermentation technology and bioreactor design, water treatment, fermentative production of renewable biofuels and industrial microbiology.
